Hey Leute,
Hello guys,
I just wanted to introduce myself and my car.
As you may recognize from all the misspellings and wrong grammar: I'm German, greetings from the mainland
At the Moment I study Car- and Engine-Engineering at a University in Germany, but It seems to be more like a math/physics/mechanic study.
Anyway, I've always liked to work on my scooters and bikes so I thought It would be time to bring it to the next level and start working on cars.
So I looked for a nice old car with not much fancy stuff and electronic devices on it that could cause problems and my choice was the Ford Capri Mk3.
It's not too old
It has mass-produced technic (Granada, Taunus, Consul, Sierra...)
Good parts availlability
So I got this one:
I know it's not perfekt, it's more like a constructionsite but I guess it can make a good car.
The previous owner startet the project but then became a truck triver and was just arround and finally lost track of his project.
THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE GARAGE FOR 20 YEARS!
He preserved the Chassis and put oil through the spark plug-holes back then.
I couldn't find any rust on the car and the eninge turned when you put a gear in pushed it.
Guess the risk is low in consideration of the Price i payd for it.
I've got all the original documents, legal-papers of the Tuning parts, bills of the Tuning parts worth over 4600 DM and that was arround 1990, so thats about...mhhh....12.000 € ^^
I got the car last week and brought it to the garage. It's mainly kind of a industrial Hall, where you can rent a parking lot and have Access to a hydraulic lift, welder and other special stuff.
loaded the car up:
and brought to his future place:
So thats the point where I am right now, hope I didnt bore u too much with the background-story.
So here's the part where I need your consultation:
According to the previous owner, the engine ran the day it was "put to sleep" in the Garage but hasn't run in over 20 years.
What I planned on doing:
Drain Oil and put new in
-->I've heard that full-syntetic is bad, 20w50 would be good, thought about the Mannol Safari 20W50, any idea?
Remove sparkplugs and put some oil in each Zylinder
Remove valve covers and put oil on the rockers, "valve-rods?" etc
Drain coolant, put new in
connect the fuel pump to a fuel can with fresh fuel
put a battery in
turn the engine over until it gets some oil-pressure
put the spark plugs back in
fire it up (at least i hope it fires up)
Any recomandations for me?
I know it's a mess and it's going to be some work, buts thats exactly what I wanted.
